But a closer look at Islamic teachings reveals that Islam gave slaves far greater rights than all other religions and societies, sought to bring them on an equal footing with free people, and took many steps to end slavery. This article seeks to clarify this attitude of Islam. It argues that Islam did not initiate slavery, it already existed in society. The divine law has always been that it gradually corrects unwelcome matters. Islam instructed its followers to treat slaves well and socially made them equal to free people. It repeatedly issued decrees on the liberation of slaves for various religious reasons, which eventually paved the way for the abolition of slavery. Finally a law of the ultimate ban on enslavement was revealed that slaves could make contract of their freedom with their masters.</p> ER -
