It finds that modern world view and episteme do not consider Man as the crown amongst all the creations. All the eminent Western psychologists and writers on Human Nature agree that man possesses an urge for ideals which is responsible for his all kinds of activities. According to Freud it is the sexual instinct, Adler relates this urge to the self-assertion and ego, McDougall thinks it the outcome of a combination of all the instincts. Karl Marx reveals that ideals are rooted in the economic urge of man while Darwin already had declared Man as a result of an automatic evolutionary process. These theories had played an important role in creating the world view or weltanschauung of the man of 20th century. But this explanation of Human Nature has deprived Man from his classical position of spirituality and morality and has depicted him as a social animal that is driven by his instincts consciously or unconsciously. The Qur’ānic concept of Human Nature as explained by Dr. Muhammad Rafī-ud-Dīn proves that the urge for ideals is the real, the ultimate and the sole dynamic power of human actions and it find its roots not in instincts but in something transcendent and metaphysical.
2021-05-29T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2021 Al-Qamar http://alqamarjournal.com/index.php/alqamar/article/view/514 Coronavirus: A punishment, Trail or Message from Allah? The proposed framework argues that Islamic branding has significant impact on Ḥalāl goods purchasing and repurchasing (hereafter PRP) decisions. It also studies the effects of social networks’ satisfaction on the process of PRP of products and services, based on the Uses and Gratification Theory (hereafter UGT). An online survey of 344 participants was done with data analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling technique in order to evaluate the relationship of social media usage, purchase, re-purchase and social media user satisfaction. Finally, it was empirically demonstrated that the gratification experienced by users through social media usage influences purchase intention. According to UGT, the findings contribute to how social media influences alternative assessments through the gratification of user needs, resulting in actions and motives leading to the purchase of products and services.
2021-04-09T10:32:29+00:00 Muhammad Sher Rabana msherrabana@gmail.com Dr. Muhammad Feroz-ud-Din Shah Khagga muhammad.feroz@uos.edu.pk
The Quran, due to its unique rhythmic style of expression, seems to have a deep connection with music and elegance of voice, on the other hand, Islam has various teachings regarding the prohibition of music and songs. In this context, there has been a debate among Islamic scholars as to whether it is permissible to use the principles of music, Muqāmāt and melodies in the recitation of the Quran? Some scholars are convinced of the Sharīʻah legitimacy of the use of music, Muqāmāt and melodies in the recitation of the Quran but some scholars do not consider it permissible. It provokes its followers to convey its message to the whole of humanity. In this context, Muslims have been striving to spread it to different individuals and nations from the very beginning. Numbers of works have been done on the spread of Islam in different areas of the world. This article is a study of the history and spread of Islam in United States of America. It discovers that Chinese, Hispanics and African Muslims came to America before Christopher Columbus. They kept relations here according to their rituals and did trade. Columbus discovered America in 1492 with a crew in which Muslim astronomers were present. In 16th and17th’s centuries, the black people of North Africa were captured and brought to America as slaves in whom 30% were Muslims. Islam got solid identification in USA due to these African slaves. Some of them were Islamic scholars and have relation to royal families. A strong white inviter to Islam, was Alexander Russell Web (1846-1916), who accepted Islam in (Manila) Philippines in 1886, working as diplomat of America. He announced in 1893 on national and international platforms that Islam is the best religion in the whole world. First Muslim mosque was built in U.S in1886 in Lowa and the 2nd was in1890 in North Dakota. 19 mosques were there in this country till 1930. Black Muslim leaders like Elijah Muhammad, his son Warith Deen Muhammad and FaraKhan played important role in organizing black Muslims and Nation of Islam. Due to NOI, Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali boxer and Mike Tyson accepted Islam. Immigrated Muslims came to U.S from 1865 and onward and founded lot of Islamic centers, mosques, organizations and educational institutions. In modern-day America immigrated Muslims have been playing effective role in every sphere of American life. Studying the texts from the Quran and Sunnah and various scholars’ views on the subject, it finds that in Western civilization, the adoption of a materialistic and corporeal approach based on secularism and enlightenment has led to alienation from religious and spiritual values. In the context of scientific and materialistic development of the West, its cultural standards greatly influenced the Islamic world, and here too the same kind of tenets began to flourish. Over time, this influence has become a serious problem. In the contemporary Muslim World, spiritual ideals have turned into rituals; Muslim Ummah has moved away from actual religious teachings. This study suggests that Muslim scholars and mentors, in order to achieve the goal of Ideological reform, should cultivate in Muslim Ummah a thought based on true teachings of Quran and Sunnah, constructed on rational and logical arguments in accordance with the requirements of the modern age. In this regard, guidance should be sought from the work of Muslim thinkers who have done valuable work for the revival of Islam and Muslim Ummah.
This article studies the thoughts of Ismāʻīl Rājī al-Fārūqī (1921-1986), a Palestinian-American scholar and philosopher, on the principles of Islamization of modern social sciences. It argues that Modern Western sciences are based on materialism, aimed at profit, luxury and improving living standards. There is no place in these sciences for seeking God and moral values. But there is also no doubt in the fact that number of new practical questions about politics and society, have been addressed by these modern sciences. Al-Fārūqī believes in the use of modern Western sciences, but emphasizes the need to reconcile religious and secular sciences. The essential elements of modern Western sciences that are in conflict with Islamic thought and philosophy should be Islamized and disseminated to the common man. To this end, al-Fārūqī has outlined a number of principles, according to which Muslims have been suggested to come up with such a curriculum by critically analyzing modern Western social sciences in the light of Islamic sciences that meets with the requirements of the modern age as well is compatible with Islamic Sharīʻah.
2021-05-18T06:15:33+00:00 Dr. Rukhsana Bibi rukhsana.bibi@orinst.ox.ac.uk Dr. Shazia Umbrin drshaziaumbrin@gmail.com
This article presents a study of the thoughts of Allāma Muhammad Iqbāl (1877-1938), a great Muslim writer, poet and philosopher of South Asia, on the religious identity and role of women. The study reveals that Iqbāl’s poetry is full of Eastern and Islamic traditions. In the case of women too, all of Iqbāl’s ideas are based on Eastern and Islamic traditions. He seems to say the same thing about women, which is taught by Islam. He has repeatedly mentioned women in his poetry in different ways: he mentions woman with great respect and reverence; he mentions her sometimes in the form of mother and sometimes in the form of friend; sometimes he praises her perseverance and courage and sometimes pays special attention to her education and training. According to Iqbāl, a woman with eastern and Islamic traditions is the representative of high social values, high morals and religious traditions. He forbids Muslim women from following Western women. He wants to see her follow the great Muslim women of the past. He wants the character of today’s Muslim woman to be like that of Hazrat Fātima, so that great characters like Hussain are born from her womb.
2021-05-26T00:26:25+00:00 Muhammad Shafique Ahmed muhammad_sakamboh@yahoo.com Professor Dr. Mustafeez Ahmad Alvi muhammad_sakamboh@yahoo.com
Etiquette of war has been an important topic of discussion in various circles from the very beginning. This debate has become increasingly important in modern times. It is said by the opponents of Islam that Islam and Muslims have abandoned the etiquette of war and allowed oppression and aggression. Among the Muslim scholars who have contributed to this debate is a section of Qur’ānic commentators. This article presents a study of Urdu commentaries on the subject under consideration. Six Urdu commentaries have been selected for this study. Arguments quoted from selected Urdu commentaries reveal that infidels with whom the Muslims have a peace treaty cannot be fought unless they themselves have broken the covenant, nor can the people of the enemy who take refuge in them be killed. Reconciliation with the infidels will not be initiated during the war, unless there is a great compulsion, but if there is an offer of peace from the infidels, it will not be rejected. Non-combatants will not be killed intentionally. It is not permissible to cut down or damage trees and crops from enemy territory on the basis of retaliation alone, although war tactics can be used to cut down trees that impede military movement. No human will be burned alive or burned in the fire after death. However, the use of firearms in modern times is not against the etiquette of war in Islam. Orientalists have objected that Muslims were naturally prone to looting and war but the Qur’ānic words "وَهُوَ كُرْهٌ لَكُمْ" depicts that they dislike war. It is clear from this study that in the selected Urdu commentaries, a successful attempt has been made to prove the moral superiority of Islam and Muslims regarding etiquettes of war.
2021-06-13T17:15:49+00:00 Kanwal Hameed kanwalhameedaiou@gmail.com Dr. Shahida Yousaf kanwalhameedaiou@gmail.com
Among the studies that have come to light on the religious, cultural and intellectual history of the subcontinent, the three books (Āb-i-Kawsar, Rūd-i-Kawsar and Mawj-i-Kawsar) by Sheikh Muhammad Ikrām (1908-1973), a renowned Pakistani historian and biographer, are unique in nature.
