Abstract
The life and mission of Sheikh Muhammad Metwali Al-Shaarawi
epitomize the spirit of da‘wah and irshad in the modern Muslim
world. Rejecting high governmental offices to preserve the integrity of
his calling, he dedicated himself entirely to conveying the message of
Islam through lessons, interviews, and travels across nations. This
study examines the principles of da‘wah embedded in Tafsir Al-
Shaarawi, demonstrating how the Sheikh derived his methodology
directly from the Qur’an, authentic Hadith, and the wisdom of the
Salaf. The paper argues that Al-Shaarawi conceptualized da‘wah as
both an honor and an act of worship, governed by divinely ordained
rules: wisdom hikmah, good exhortation maw‘izah hasanah, and
gracious debate jidal ahsan. He emphasized that adherence to the fiqh
of da‘wah is essential to open blind hearts and deaf ears, and to lead
people toward faith, righteousness, and adherence to the straight path.
