Hadīth, Criticism, Amīn Aḥsan IṣlāhīAbstract
Criterion of acceptance or rejection of a tradition is an important subject in ḥadīth sciences. Many principles have been established in this regard. Pakistani scholar Amīn Aḥsan Iṣlāḥī has also described his viewpoint and set some standards of receiving or refuting a particular tradition. This article studies these standards in the light of his “Mubādī-e-Tabbur-e-Ḥadīth”. It finds that Iṣlāḥi has established six principles. According to these principles every ḥadīth is subject to criticism; no ḥadiṭh contrary to reason, Quran and established prophetic Sunnah is acceptable.
