Asbāb-e-Nuẓūl and Naẓm-e-Quran are the prominent branches of tafsīr sciences. This paper studies the subject in context of the views of Amīn Aḥsan Iṣlāḥī and mainstream scholars. Mainstream scholars value both the sciences; they oppose to prefer Naẓm-e-Quran over Asbāb-e-Nuzūl. To them, there are only a few verses in the Quran where the Asbāb-e-Nuzūl and Naẓm-e-Quran differ. In such a case, they prefer one over the other on the basis of arguments. While Iṣlāḥī gives absolute priority to the Naẓm-e-Quran over the Asbāb-e-Nuzūl. He considers Asbāb-e-Nuzūl an obstacle in interpretation of Qurānic verses. The paper supports the mainstream scholars’ view. It finds better to use both the branches in Qur’ānic exegesis.
