A Study of the Manuscript “Tashīl al-Kāfiah” by ʻAbd al-Ḥaq al-Khair Abādī

Abstract

Proving their good skills in Arabic, authors of the Subcontinent have produced significant works in this language. This article presents a study of famous Indian Scholar ʻAbd al-Ḥaq al-Khair Abādī’s “Tashīl al-Kāfiah”, a solution of "Al-Kāfiah" by Ibn Hājib, which was actually the work of Persian encyclopedic writer and traditionalist theologian Sayyed Sharīf al-Jurjānī, with the title "Al- Tarjamah al-Sharīfah". Due to the extraordinary benefits of "Al-Kāfiah" for the students and scholars, ʻAbd al-Ḥaq Khair Abādī, translated it from Persian to Arabic. The study gives a brief introduction of “Tashīl al-Kāfiah”, its characteristics and methodology adopted by the learned exponent. It finds that the book contains classic and standard information on ʻIlm al-Naḥv.
