Purpose

Al-Qamar is committed to open access, responsible reuse, proper attribution, and wide scholarly circulation of academic research. This policy explains the journal’s open-access model, copyright position, licensing terms, author rights, reader rights, reuse permissions, repository policy, and third-party material requirements.

This page applies to all articles published in Al-Qamar unless otherwise stated.

Open Access Policy

Al-Qamar is an open-access journal. Readers, researchers, students, teachers, libraries, and institutions are not charged for access to published content.

Published articles are made available online through the official journal website to support research, teaching, citation, academic exchange, and public scholarly access.

The journal believes that open access improves academic visibility, supports knowledge sharing, and helps researchers in Islamic Studies and related fields access scholarly work without subscription barriers.

The version of record is the final published version available on the official journal website.

The official version of record is the article version published on the Al-Qamar website with final metadata, issue information, page range, DOI or article URL where available, and final article file.

When authors or readers share a copy of an article elsewhere, they are encouraged to include a link to the official version of record.

Third-Party Material

The CC BY 4.0 license applies to the author’s published article. Third-party materials included in an article may be subject to separate copyright terms where indicated.

Third-party material may include:

  • Images
  • Tables
  • Figures
  • Maps
  • Manuscript photographs
  • Archival documents
  • Copyrighted translations
  • Long quotations
  • Reproduced textual material
  • Any material not created by the author

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for third-party material where permission is required. Authors should clearly identify third-party material and any separate copyright or permission conditions.

Translations and Adaptations

Articles published under CC BY 4.0 may be translated, adapted, or reused, provided that proper attribution is given and the reuse does not misrepresent the original work.

Where a translation or adaptation is made, users should indicate that the work has been translated or adapted from the original publication.

Commercial and Non-Commercial Reuse

The CC BY 4.0 license allows reuse under its stated terms, provided proper attribution is given. Al-Qamar does not add non-commercial or no-derivatives restrictions to articles published under CC BY 4.0, unless a specific exception is clearly stated.

The journal should not use wording such as “commercial reuse is prohibited” for articles published under CC BY 4.0.

The following restrictive wording should not be used for Al-Qamar articles published under CC BY 4.0:

Any old wording that conflicts with CC BY 4.0 should be removed from the website, article templates, footer, PDF files, and policy pages.

Library and Teaching Use

Libraries, teachers, and academic institutions may link to, share, and use published articles for teaching, learning, research, cataloguing, and academic guidance, provided proper attribution is maintained.

Libraries may include article metadata and links in catalogues, reading lists, institutional repositories, and research guides.

Metadata and Discoverability

Al-Qamar supports accurate metadata for article discovery, citation, indexing, and archiving. Article metadata should include title, author names, affiliations, abstract, keywords, issue details, page range, DOI or article URL where available, license information, and publisher information.

Accurate metadata supports long-term access, citation tracking, and scholarly visibility.
