Abstract

This study examines the rhetorical functions and psychological and educational dimensions of al-Inshāʾ al-Ṭalabī (requestive expressions) in Sūrah al-Furqān. It aims to identify the principal forms of requestive expression in the Sūrah, analyze their rhetorical meanings in relation to their contextual settings, and explore their contribution to psychological and educational guidance. The study employs an inductive approach to identify relevant textual instances and a descriptive-analytical approach to examine their structures, contextual meanings, and rhetorical functions. It focuses on five major forms: command, prohibition, interrogation, wish, and vocative expression. The analysis demonstrates that these forms frequently extend beyond their primary linguistic meanings to convey context-dependent rhetorical purposes. Commands may function as guidance, reassurance, supplication, or encouragement, while prohibitions may serve as warnings, establish doctrinal distinctions, and counter false expectations. Interrogative expressions expose the errors and assumptions of the polytheists and may convey denial, rebuke, amazement, affirmation, or consolation. Wish and vocative expressions contribute to the depiction of regret, grief, supplication, and emotional distress. The study concludes that the diversity of requestive expressions in Sūrah al-Furqān reflects the precision and eloquence of Qur’anic discourse. Their contextual variation simultaneously engages the intellect, shapes emotional responses, and directs human conduct, thereby contributing to faith formation, moral refinement, behavioral correction, and the development of a balanced and responsible personality.
