Risalah Qushairiah, authored by the legend Sufi Scholar Imam Qushairi is considered as an Encyclopaedia of Sufism, in academic circles. Due to the reason that it reflects almost all traits and foundations of Tasawwuf. Imam Qushairi claims that the classic Sufism has been derived from Kitab o Sunnah, the fundamental sources of Islam. However, all great Sufi scholars, developed a distinct emphasis on spiritual states (Ahwal) and permissible renunciations (Tark-e-Ghair and Rukhsat). Qushairi has opted for his own style of writing and interpreting Sufi doctrines, remaining committed to the principles of all schools. In the preamble of his book, Imam Qushairi elucidates that he presents Sufism in its original form that became
according to him, polluted with some artificialities of his time. This article explores the method of deriving knowledge from the Qur’an
and Sunnah for Sufi worldview and life-style, with reference to AlRisalah al-Qushayriyya.
