Scholarly Contributions of Maulana Sher Bahadur to the Promotion of Qur'anic Studies and Services: A Critical and Analytical Study

Abstract

this paper is an analysis of the works of Maulana Sher Bahadur to Quranic services. Maulana Sher Bahadur was one of the brightest religious scholars, teachers, and preachers who made a great contribution to the spreading of Quranic teachings in the region. In the study, the author lays emphasis on his works in the area of Qur’an teachings, Quranic commentary (Tafsir) and the general propagation of Quranic principles in the society. Maulana Sher Bahadur spent most of his life in the service of Quran in teaching in religious institutions, preaching and education of students in memorizing and comprehending Quran. He was connected with leading religious establishments, such as Madrasah Abdullah Ibn Abbas in Kohat where he contributed significantly to the education of so many students. This was due to his lessons and teachings where several students were able to memorize the Quran and even have to carry on with the task of distributing Quranic knowledge in other regions of the region. The paper also examines his education, intellectual sources and his methodology of teaching that was focused on simplicity, clarity, and accessibility in explaining the Quran teachings to the students and the entire society. Besides his academic and education endeavors, as well as teaching engagements, Maulana Sher Bahadur also helped reform the community morally and socially by promoting the Islamic values and enhancing the knowledge of the Quran. The research will capture and examine the academic contributions of Maulana Sher Bahadur and show how he contributed to the tradition of Qur schooling in District Kohat. The research keeps and analyzes his works and offers a good knowledge on the history of the Quranic services in the region and as a reference tool to the future scholars and researchers interested in the Islamic scholarship and regional religious history.
