Seerat-un-Nabi ﷺ from a Non-Muslim Perspective: A Study of Ishq-e-Rasool ﷺ and Heartfelt Attachment in Surjit Singh Lamba’s Qur’an-e-Natiq

Abstract

The writing of *Seerah* (the biography of the Prophet) is a noble art in which the various facets of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) blessed life are chronicled with love, devotion, realism, and impartiality. While Muslim biographers have elevated the art of *Seerah* writing to its zenith—driven by their profound love for the Prophet (PBUH)—non-Muslim biographers have also examined his noble persona through their own unique perspectives. A prominent figure among them Surjit Singh Lamba despite being a non-Muslim, he has—with remarkable impartiality—presented the Prophet (PBUH) as a great leader, placing him on a par with his own religious mentor, Baba Nanak Sahib.

Lamba Sahib’s magnificent book, *Quran-e-Natiq* (The Speaking Quran), is a work in which he has articulated his emotions with profound impact, presenting the *Seerah* (life story) of the Prophet (PBUH) with deep love and devotion. Every word of the book bears witness to his heartfelt attachment, respect, and reverence. Furthermore, the perspective from which Lamba Sahib has viewed and contemplated both the personality of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Holy Quran is truly touching. *Quran-e-Natiq* is like a fragrant flower whose scent—born of love for the Prophet (PBUH)—transcends borders and religions to perfume every heart.

In concluson, Quran-e-Natiq stands as more than a biographical work it is a heartfelt expression of Ishq-e-Rasool from a non-Muslim lens. Labmba’s sincerity intellectual rigor and literary nuance offer a distinctive and inclusive contribution to Seerat literature. This research engourages broader interfaith appreciation and expands the scope of Islamic historiography.
